Your job depends on staying on top of the latest information to keep your workplace and workers safe. However, that constant barrage of new legislation, research and technologies can be overwhelming, especially when it's combined with the other demands of your job.

Luckily numerous websites distill and analyze this barrage of information on your behalf. However, with so many resources available online, how can you know which ones to spend your valuable time on? To help you sift through this barrage of information, we've identified five sites that you should be reading. We've also included their social media details to help further manage your daily reads.

#1. EHS Today

EHS Today hosts a prolific blog that functions more like a daily news feed for safety professionals. It features the "latest occupational safety news and best practices, with coverage including workplace safety best practices, workplace safety management practices and risk management." They also cover safety leadership and safety trends. EHS Today articles tend to be more in-depth and less about "breaking news." However, the stories offer meticulous research, expert advice and an engaging style.

The site also hosts regular webinars on safety-related subjects and publishes free eBooks, white papers and case studies on concepts ranging from safety technology to risk management survival. If time is an issue for you, sign up for a range of newsletters that are either straight news or industry-specific digests.

#2. The American Society of Safety Professionals

Few professional organizations boast exceptionally well-funded internal communications departments. The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) appears to be the exception. Their website touts itself as "your source for insights on trends in the safety profession, including developments in safety management, worker safety, government and regulatory affairs and standards." It delivers all of this in a well-organized blog-style format.

Their weekly feature, "Safety News You Need," prowls the web to find the latest and most useful articles on specific topics, saving you precious time. It presents the links not as a list but in the form of a well-researched brief with links to additional sources of information. For example, their recent feature on the human factors affecting workplace safety covered everything from fatigue to organizational culture to individual, organizational and task-based factors and linked out to four sites, two webinars and one book.

The ASSP maintains social media channels that publicize articles and focus on safety-related news.

Much of its monthly print magazine is available online, but the real value of this site lies in the pages devoted to every aspect of industrial health and safety.

In these pages lies a wealth of up-to-date information exploring everything from psychology to PPE. The Columns section is updated more sporadically. However, it offers some intriguing editorial commentary and discussion on safety-related topics. Again, if you don't have time to peruse the entire site, you can sign up for a variety of newsletters. In addition to its print offerings, the site hosts videos, podcasts and webinars.

ISHN maintains several media channels that promote its content and the products that support it.
