What Does Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Mean?

Mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) refers to a program of complementary medicine intended to help people cope with pain and a variety of other conditions through the use of mindfulness meditation and yoga as a counterpart for the use of prescription drugs. Mindfulness based stress reduction aims to create awareness of the mind and body of the practitioners in order to control emotional, physical, and spiritual health.

Mindfulness based stress reduction was created by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and includes an 8-week training course in mindfulness meditation. The course is set on a weekly basis and entails meetings, homework, and instruction in three bases: mindfulness meditation, body awareness, and yoga postures.

According to research, incorporating mindfulness based stress reduction can help people deal with anxiety, depression, and stress. There is no specific evidence that MBSR can help prevent or cure a disease but it has been found that it can improve quality of life and relieve symptoms of certain diseases, particularly conditions that are aggravated by high stress levels.
