A job development specialist is someone who facilitates job training and employment opportunities. Job development specialists are participants in the vocational training and education industry. They assist individuals in the job development process by providing them with support and guidance. Their primary role is to help job seekers prepare for and participate in on-the-job training in order to become workforce ready.

Job development specialists often work with individuals from disadvantaged groups or others who experience difficulties finding long-term employment. These workforce development professionals may assist individual job seekers, coordinate work-training programs with employers or otherwise assist in developing a local population's workforce potential.

To assist individual clients, the job development specialist explores the client's individual strengths and weaknesses, skills and interests, and then helps him or her prepare for and complete suitable on the job training. The job development specialist will coordinate with a prospective employer to help develop a training program that meets the needs of both the employer and the trainee.
