What Does Health Coach Mean?

A health coach, sometimes called a wellness coach, is a health care professional who engages in assisting and encouraging others to meet their health and wellness goals. A health coach usually receives training in the health coaching field and may be certified by a training institution. Access to health coaching is sometimes offered as an incentive in a workforce wellness program.

A health coach works with his or her client to help that client achieve health and wellness goals. A health coach may assist an individual in identifying health goals and motivations and creating a plan for achieving those goals. The coach may then continue to work with his or her client as the client progresses toward specific goals, offering encouragement and feedback. A health coach is expected to have the knowledge and skills necessary to assist the client in safely achieving improved wellness.
