Definition - What does confirmation validity test mean?
A confirmation validity test is used to affirm (validate) the results of a previous validity test. This test is performed on urine samples submitted for drug testing. This testing is performed to detect evidence that a sample itself may be diluted or contains additives that would render the actual drug testing invalid. If an initial validity test indicates that the urine sample has been tampered with in some way, then a confirmation validity test is conducted before a final report of the results is issued.

When drug testing is conducted in conformance with federal employee drug testing guidelines, an initial validity test is used to assess each urine sample. This validity test examines various factors including the sample's pH level and specific gravity. The sample may also be analyzed for discrepancies in the expected creatinine and oxidant levels as well. Results from this analysis which fall outside the normal range for human urine may be an indication that a test subject has attempted to adulterate or dilute his or her urine sample.
If the initial validity test indicates evidence of potential tampering, then a confirmatory validity test is performed to verify these results. This test will be performed on a separate aliquot taken from the same specimen. While test results outside the range of normal are not proof of intentional tampering by a test subject, they may be grounds for rejecting the sample as invalid.
