Definition - What does Fix mean?

A fix is a a term used to describe the act of a drug addict taking the drug they are addicted to as the result of a physical or psychological addiction. It is referred to as a fix because it stops withdrawal symptoms and makes the user believe they are better, or fixed, in the short term.

WorkplaceTesting explains Fix

A fix is directly associated with a pattern of addictive and often spontaneous behavior. Individuals receive their fix from a variety of legal and/or illegal substances including barbiturates, cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, methamphetamines, and prescribed opioids. A drug fix usually starts with a low dosage, but repeat drug use causes the brain to develop tolerance. For people to experience the initial intoxicating effects, larger incremental dosages are needed to achieve their fix.
