Lactate

Last updated: May 24, 2018

What Does Lactate Mean?

Lactate, in the context of blood, refers to a chemical substance produced in the bloodstream as a result of the disproportion of oxygen absorption to carbon dioxide expulsion during intense exercise sessions. Lactate is merely a byproduct of oxygen deficiency in which case muscles will overcompensate their metabolic energy or, lack thereof, to continue a steady workout until fatigue ensues. It is sometimes erroneously referred to as lactic acid.

WorkplaceTesting Explains Lactate

Lactate is a chemical substance that results from muscles exerting themselves beyond the capacity to generate sufficient oxygen to counterbalance an accumulation of carbon dioxide in the blood. There are two systemic workout methods, which are aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Lactate formation occurs during the anaerobic stage in which the metabolism lacks the necessary minerals and nutrients contained in oxygenated blood to prolong a workout. Hence, the muscles will start to burn and fatigue from the development of excess lactate in the blood.
