Definition - What does Rectocele mean?

Rectocele is a condition in which the front wall of the rectum herniates and causes a bulge in the back vaginal wall. This condition may also be referred to as posterior prolapse or pelvic organ prolapse.

WorkplaceTesting explains Rectocele

The walls of the rectum and vagina are separated by tissue called the rectovaginal septum. If this tissue is weakened or damaged, a rectal hernia may occur. The rectovaginal septum may be damaged by injury or weakened over time to cause causing this condition. Treatment of rectocele may include surgical or nonsurgical measures.
